Every second Friday students will fill out a Current Events sheet. Students will pick out a particular article that interests them and answer the questions on the worksheet above. Students will be provided with a worksheet in class, but if they are absent they can access the worksheet above. At the end of the semester students will pick the Current Event that they found the most interesting, and completed to the best of their ability, and it will be submitted for a final grade of 10% to their final grade. Every Current Event that is not submitted, students will lose 1%. Newspapers are provided to students in the classroom, they can access news articles on their cell phones, and I always have the news playing over the SMART Board during the period.
Each student is responsible for filling out, completing and handing in their own Independent Project. Each student has the opportunity to pick what they would like to do for their project, what topic they'd like to chose, when they would like to hand it in, as well as what grade they would like to achieve. After filling out the contract, students will place their contract into their folder. Students are responsible for completing and handing in their Individual Project on the day they chose to hand it in. Students can choose whichever topic they would like, as long as it has relevance to a topic we discuss in class. The grade the student receives will count for 15% of their final grades. The assignment is completely in their hands, and is expected to be done on their own time.
